A great way to explore this interest a little further is to try and get a part time job or even an unpaid internship at a restaurant or hotel. Most people who really want to be in the industry fall in love with the camaraderie pretty quickly. You can do many things from the food and hospitality business. You can become a chef if the food and creativity appeals to you most. It is an amazing way to learn about leading a team, a skill you can take just about anywhere! Many go on to own their own restaurants, bed and breakfasts, etc.

I would highly recommend getting an internship in the hotel industry. There are management programs that will let you intern in each department so you can see what interests you more in the hospitality industry.

I would recommend having a part time job while in high school somewhere in the service industry, whether it be hostessing at a restaurant or working at a coffee shop inside of a hotel. As for college, you really don't need a fancy degree. Just a general business degree would be good enough, if you are looking to go into management at some point in time. In the hospitality industry, there are so many options! There are hotels, theme parks, restaurants, and country clubs that have so many different types of positions. For example, in the hotel industry, there's a front desk department, maintenance department, human resources department, accounting department, food and beverage outlets, housekeeping, and usually a recreation/spa department. Start off as a regular employee, then work your way to become a supervisor, and then move up to be manager, then director. As long as you are a loyal employee who comes in with a positive attitude and delivers excellent guest/customer service, then you will be promoted in no time!
