Should I go to post-secondary if my heart really isn't in it?

I've never really been a fan of school, but jobs are hard to get and post-secondary degrees are usually the requirement. Is it bad that I'd major in something I don't have a passion for? #jobs #school

Hi Calvin!
This is a good question & I wish more students would think about this. Please know school is important, but personally I don't think it's needed to get where you want to go in life.
I went to college for 2.5 years for social work then took a break. That was 7 years ago. I feel if you're a people person, you get around & network, anything is possible.
At this point, I would think of going back to school for management classes, just to advance at my current employment.

I love my job, I make comfortable salary, & I can always go back. If you're really not into school at the moment I think it's a waste of money & can hurt someone financially.

Weigh the pros & cons! Best of luck to you!

Cristel’s Answer

Hello
You should not force yourself to continue education if you have no passion for it. Instead you should work on finding that passion and seeing how higher education can help you reach your goal. Here are some ideas to get your ideas flowing:
1) watch some episodes of roadtrip nation; http://roadtripnation.com/about
2) take an online class in something that interests you (browse https://www.edx.org/)
3) if you can afford it, take a "gap year" to travel and volunteer outside your home country
4) get a job with someone you trust and ask to "apprentice with him/her" for 6 months; do this with a couple people to learn about the working world and how formal education can help you in that world
Good luck
