Before you get to that point, it would be a good idea to explore if you like reporting by joining your school or town's paper. You can also start a blog on your own and write stories about things you encounter in the world. Interview people you know and tell their stories - this will help you build your voice and your writing capabilities. I would also encourage you to read lots of different news publications, listen to radio news and watch news programs online/ on tv so that you can identify what type of journalism most interests you! An important piece of being a journalist is being informed, so you'll want to build a habit of keeping up on the news . Being curious, a good writer, and having the ability to research and seek the truth are all important pieces of being a journalist. You can also join organizations like the Society for Professional Journalism when you're in school to build your network.
