Good question Jocelyn. What shocked me after I graduated from college was that most jobs are unheard of! The world can only sustain so many doctors and engineers. They are most mentioned probably because... actually, I haven't a real clue why those the ones most talked about.
So what jobs are unheard of? Well, there are lots of different industries where people can work - medicine, finance, law, products, services, for example. Within these major industries, many jobs have to exist to make the industries work. Let's take medicine as an example - yes, there are doctors, but there are also nurses, technicians, pharmacists, pharmocologists, administrators, and many more jobs just to support a medical team. The doctors that prescribe medicine relies on pharmaceutical companies, who employ scientists, researchers, product managers, marketers, lawyers, and many other jobs to bring a drug to market. Meaning, there are lots of jobs that make up a company or industry. I suggest learning about different jobs here: http://www.thewhocarestrust.org.uk/pages/what-job-would-suit-me.html or doing some googling to find out about all the different jobs out there.
