First, remember that writing is an ongoing process. Don't let minor road blocks discourage you; learn ways to overcome them even if it is taking a break for a while or starting something new. Second, writing is not a solitary practice. Find a group of people who also love writing and help support one another by looking over each others work and offering advise and praise. Often times having a second pair of eyes helps find things that you otherwise wouldn't notice like a possible plot hole. Lastly, read as much as you can, especially within the genera that you write in, and take notes. You can always learn something new from reading new books just like you can always learn something from writing in community.
Also, some sage advise from an old teacher of my own: everything is a draft until you die.

I suggest the following tips on being an author:
1) Be inspired by the topic you are writing about.
2) Use a personal experience if you can and it it's relevant/appropriate.
3) Join a writing club and ready your draft to the group and take their feedback. Be open to criticism and grow.
4) Try to focus on working on one book at a time, and do not get too distracted with multiple projects.
5) Consider taking forward your final draft to Amazon Self-Publish, as this could be a first way forward.
Enjoy the journey.

The most important thing that I can suggest is to be open and not extremely judgmental about your rough draft. A lot of writers can sometimes get hung up on focusing on making their rough draft the "perfect first draft" when in reality that is extremely hard to do. When you write the rough draft keep in mind that it will probably not be perfect and there will be parts of it that you dislike. However, use that as a learning experience instead of thinking of it as a negative. Why do you think is bad? Does it need replacing? Is there anything wrong with the structure? There is a lot that you can learn from your drafts that can lead to perfection later on.
Also, if you ask for advice be open to all the advice that you get that are CONSTRUCTIVE. Only pay attention to the advice that actually shows you how to make your writing better, not just people saying "it's bad" with no explanation at all.

The best way to be a better writer is to READ. Read as much as you can. One mentor said you have to read 100 pages for one page of writing. I think it also helps to do morning pages (wake up and do free flow writing). And lastly, write what scares you to write! What is it that you know that no one else does? What scares you the most to write? That often leads to really interesting writing!
make a goal of doing morning pages a certain number of times a week
start a long list of books, articles, and writers to read
read a lot

Hello Moon!
I am not an author but I do know that with any profession, you need to have determination and grit. There are going to be tough days and easy days, the important thing is to not give up! Like the previous answers, I also want to echo that writing is an on-going process, I do have friends who have written books that spent several years per book, as there were many edits and revisions.
Have fun!
