I agree with the responses above. One major goal that I had was to become a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). You can start for a small firm or one of the Big 4, either path you choose, there should be a substantial pay increase after you become a CPA, as compared to an EA (Enrolled Agent) or working without a certification. Salaries can differ between regions. In the North West region, I believe entry level associates at the Big 4 can start with a Master's degree around $62,000. This can also change with different types and levels of degrees.

Blake’s Answer

Hi Jaime,

As Frank stated, www.glassdoor.com is a great resource. Your potential company and the city that you would be working in matter quite a bit as well. An accountant starting in New York City may start at $60,000, while an accountant in a smaller city or rural area may be closer to $45,000.

Most accountants see solid income progression throughout their careers as they become more knowledgeable and more valuable to their clients. Many accountants can end their careers making over $100,000. It is also worthwhile to note that several accountants move on to other career paths in business. Accounting is a great way to be able to learn how companies and business operate, and an accounting degree can help you get several non-accounting jobs later on.

William’s Answer

The amount of money tax accountants make can vary greatly by location and seniority. As others have commented. www.glassdoor.com is a great resource for finding potential salaries. I would recommend thinking about where you would want to live and work, then looking up salaries there. In most firms, the starting job description is "associate", so start there. You could then go on to look up senior associate, manager, director, etc if you are curious what your future salary could look like in this field. Good luck!
