How is the working environment in academia like?

For example, becoming a professor at university or working with a research team at a lab. Scientific research is something that I am really interested in, but is it a flexible position? Can I also do something in industry as well? #academia

Yes!
There are many consultants and training sectors that will allow you to receive real time experience in the the corporate industry. This allows you to become well versed and authentic in the science arena.
You also should consider to research area opportunities for internships or job shadowing with an area science or laboratory site.
