8 hours managing a group of 30 kids. Plus lesson planning, organizing, and cleaning for a few hours after school. It is complete chaos, progress can be slow, but a very rewarding career. Most of your time as a classroom teacher is trying to manage time to get lessons done, manage the class according to the school's plan, and make sure no one dies. If you really like kids, I don't see how anyone could dislike the job. The hardest part is dealing with parents and administration along with not making a whole lot of money. I preferred teaching a private schools because the rules made more sense to me...and you make more money :)

I am not able to speak in terms of the reality of the work field because I do not live in the US. But, in terms of knowledge, I think it's a fantastic job ... it's dynamic and the atmosphere changes with the day. You have to be organized and know how to plan. Be attentive and respectful of the process of being a child and work with it. Recognize what the child knows about the world and dialogue from that with what the institution and you have to teach (and learn).
If you like to work in a challenging space and relate to children and families it is really cool. It is challenging and sometimes underpaid, as in my country, but it is still a great field.
