Doc’s Answer

PHOTOSYNTHESIS – The prefix PHOTO means light, and SYNTHESIS means to bring together. In other words, photosynthesis is the bringing together of molecules using light energy. Photosynthesis transforms light energy from the sun into glucose along with six molecules of oxygen as a by-product.

PHOTOVOLTAICS (PV) – Photovoltaics is a method of generating electrical power by converting solar radiation known as the photoelectric effect that causes them to absorb photons of light and release electrons. When these free electrons are captured, an electric current results can be used as electricity. Electric vehicles are rapidly gaining popularity as they are an eco-friendly alternative to gasoline driven cars. Studies also suggest that, Electric Vehicles (EV), as compared to fossil fuel cars, have considerably lower greenhouse gas emissions that can even be brought down to zero. A PV panel has the capability of harnesses the solar radiation into electrical energy to be supplied to the electric vehicle batteries through EV charging stations. Over the past few years, many government bodies, automotive manufactures and other industry stakeholders have come forward to explore the new opportunities offered by Combining Solar and Electric Vehicle Charging. Solar energy engineers, also known as alternative energy engineers, photovoltaic (PV) design engineers, or solar array engineers, are experts in utilizing sunlight to generate electricity. In the solar energy industry, these individuals work in the manufacturing, construction, and maintenance of solar power materials and solar power plants. Solar energy engineers are required to hold at least a bachelor's degree, typically in mechanical or electrical engineering. Other areas of studies in which aspiring solar energy engineers can specialize include chemistry, computer science, civil engineering, and related fields, with concentrations in solar energy. Courses for these programs could include energy policy, solar energy and photovoltaics, and geothermal energy.

Hope this was helpful Hamid

Doc recommends the following next steps:

High school students should plan ahead for their college educations. Students should be dedicated to being proficient in science, computer, and math classes. Some of these classes include chemistry, biological and life sciences, computer science, CAD programs, and mechanical drawing.

Rachel’s Answer

Photosynthesis is the process used by plants, algae and certain bacteria to harness energy from sunlight and turn it into chemical energy. There are two types of photosynthetic processes: oxygenic photosynthesis and anoxygenic photosynthesis. The general principles of anoxygenic and oxygenic photosynthesis are very similar, but oxygenic photosynthesis is the most common and is seen in plants, algae and cyanobacteria.

The overall process can be neatly summarized as a chemical equation: 6CO2 + 12H2O + Light Energy → C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O
