How can I give a great impression to a interviewer?

I am applying to jobs, and I (hopefully) will be getting calls back for interviews. How can I stand out, or give a great first impression to the hiring manager? As an anxious person, I tend to stutter and look around a lot. I know that this habit is bad, so what can I do to make up for nervousness? #career #jobs #interviews

Nasreen ’s Answer

Hi Tiffanie,

While attending an interview try to be calm and composed. Project only the brighter side of your personality. Be very natural and only express things that you know. If you don't know anything, there is nothing wrong in admitting the fact but also see to it that you present yourself in a way that is positive and confident. That is the key.
Hope you have a bright future ahead.

I know this may sound simple but.....be authentic.....be yourself do not work to hard to impress.

It's ok to be thoughtful and contemplative with your answers during the interview.

Make sure you have researched the company and come prepared with question of your own about the job.

Relax....if they do not like YOU....its not really a job you want.

Good luck!

It's very natural to feel nervous and anxious before an interview. I feel the same way! A few things that may help...

  • Prepare by writing out sample questions and responses so that you feel confident with the various types of questions that may come up.

  • Lots of slow, deep breaths before the interview itself to bring your heart rate down. You can look up 5 minute meditations on YouTube.

  • Go on as many interviews as you can! The more you practice, the more you feel prepared as you go into the next interview.

Good luck, be yourself, and try to think positive!
