There are many careers in Agriculture where you do not need to own or work on a farm to be successful. Agriculture careers can be geared toward science and research to create better soil conditions and crop production around the world. There are also careers based upon the science of water conservation where you can help farmers control water supplies and help to eliminate runoff of fertilizer or chemicals which could pollute rivers and streams. If you are interested in science and learning about plants and growing, I would encourage you to take some courses in Horticulture, Agriculture, and Biology to study how vast the field of Nature Sciences can be when looking at a career.

This is a great question, I grew up in agriculture and many times from what I have seen is there isn't a whole lot of general knowledge regarding different types career. If you are not already involved look into local 4H and FFA programs that get help get you started familiarizing yourself with agricultural life and culture. I would look into Colleges with reputable agricultural science programs. I grew up near a popular one in Oklahoma called Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Look in to these types of schools and start looking at programs to decide if you are interested in Agricultural economics, engineering, architect, geneticist, Biology, or Conservation.
