How should I get Internships?

I'm currently a high school student reaching their junior year. And I need to start thinking about jobs and internships to get ready for the world after college. I was wondering how I can get ready for such things. And to answer that, I thought it would be good to get jobs and internships to get experience in the field. But as a high school student, I really don't have many contacts or people I know in specific types of fields. Therefore, I wanted to ask people. What is a good way to get internships? I'm currently looking for music related, but I am fine with many other things. I'm asking for maybe websites, ways, or even contacts if anyone has any. #internships #music #programming #music-composing #industry-contacts

Another great question :-D

We can help with that, too! Visit the internships area on our site, and we'll help you search for some! One tip: If you're looking for summer internship opportunities, most companies will start the process around February each year. So find some companies and make your applications about that time. Good luck!

Zack’s Answer

It's great that you're thinking about this already.

I am a programmer by trade (20 years professionally, 35+ years on my own) and electronic/computer musician by hobby. If I was in your position, I would look to make contact with companies and individuals who make music software to see how you can help them. Aside from the big DAWs (digital audio workstation -- Ableton Live, Apple Logic, etc), most music software is made by individuals or small companies. You may offer some help in testing their work to start. Testing music software on many platforms is a challenge for these small shops, and the least fun work they do. I would imagine they would appreciate the help. Perhaps that could lead to more interesting contributions from you to them.

This could be your way to building relationships, since your personal relationship network will be your greatest asset in your career.

Zack recommends the following next steps:

Identify a list of possible companies (e.g. Waves, Valhalla DSP, SoundToys, Ableton, etc...)
Reach out to the contact addresses on those company websites.
