What exactly do people involved in international business do?
I'm an upcoming senior in high school and I'm trying to explore different fields of study to determine which one I'm more interested in. Recently I took a Financial Occupations course and I became interested in business specifically international business. Now I'm just wondering what exactly what people involved in this area do. #business #investing #international #international-business #financing

International Business is a specialisation in MBA. And very few institutes offer this program. Though there will be openings, these are very limited. However you can get good openings as a regular MBA grad. If you are determined to break into this area, then I would suggest go for it. But you would need to choose a good institute such as IIFT or some other equivalent B-School for such course.

International Business is a fascinating field! In addition to MBA programs on the subject, some universities offer International Business as an undergraduate major as well. I would encourage you to check the list of business majors at the universities and colleges that you are considering.
I went to Indiana University, where I was able to pursue a dual major in International Business and Business Economics. As part of my International Business major, I had the opportunity to spend a semester studying at business school in France. Since graduating, I have worked in large, global corporations and have been able to put the skills I learned to good use.
That said, I do not specifically work in a field that focuses on International Business as the content of my job. I work in technology consulting - in other words, I help companies analyze their processes and find creative ways to use technology to improve them. That field provides me lots of opportunities to work with individuals across the globe and travel to my global clients. It has allowed me to relocate from the US to Canada as well.
I mention that, because these might be some of your motivations for looking for a career in International Business. My advice to you would be to think about whether there might be a second concentration in business that would be of interest to you. If so, think about pursuing a double major. I have found that it is easier to find jobs that leverage your international know-how, but are concentrated on another skill set. You will make yourself that much more employable and you'll have two aspects of your job that you enjoy. Best of luck!
