Hi Daksh,

Sometimes it's difficult to concentrate on your studies when you're concerned about other things like supporting your family. The best thing you can do right now is to not give up on your studies and to finish your degree. This is an age where times are tough and it is going to get tougher and harder, especially for those who don't have a good college education. If you cannot pursue academics right now, then you can consider getting a part time job in food delivery or personal shopper if you have a car or scooter. Or perhaps you might look into getting a job with a caterer. While it's important to develop the skills and experience in a paying job, it's more important to graduate. Have you looked into another field of study, like computer graphics, game design or something you would feel passionate about at school? Please don't short change yourself because graduating from high school or college is one of the best investments you could make in yourself. Please consider my words carefully and take care.

Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone will shock you. There are plenty of jobs in the market that you might not traditionally look for. Some of these jobs can be very lucrative. I would suggest searching for open positions in your area. Entry level jobs that train for advancement are a good start.

Wanting to provide for your family is a great way to refocus on school. You have to be able to speak as a professional and understand the procedures necessary to make any business work. An education and hardwork will outlast a person with talent, but has know will to focus. Dont cheat yourself.

Suleyman’s Answer

Hey Daksh,

if you think of it long-term, the best way to support your family is to have a good educational foundation. We are in difficult times. Especially the COVID situation can give you hard time focusing on the important things. Saying that you want to support your family is one of the most important things I can think of - besides staying healthy. Use that thought to focus on the future and it will help you to make the best decision for you.

There are a lot of work from home jobs due to COVID. If interested, you might want to check customer service jobs for different companies that are hiring. It really all depends on your age, skills and talents. Earning degrees and certifications is definitely a step in the right direction to earning money to support your family. That's great that they have you.

You might want to consider some of the trade jobs such as welding, electrician, HVAC, or plumbing. These are trade jobs you can pick up without having to do long college course-work and earn a decent wage pretty quickly. These fields are increasing demand just like the technical careers you referred to.
