Simeon’s Answer

For me, the biggest factor motivating me is looking after my family. The better I do in the workplace, the better able I am to provide for them. I enjoy taking pride in a job well done as well, but family's my main work motivation.

Wael’s Answer

Dreams! I have certain things I want to do and achieve in my life. Regarding performance, I don't compare myself to other people; I just always try my best to get the job done with best quality and the shortest time. Of course I look at other peoples' work and try to cooperate the touches I like into my work. Evolution sometimes come for the outside and there is no shame in that.

Gerard’s Answer

Doing a good job and achieving the desired end result is my primary motivation. While I enjoy working on a project on my own, I'm particularly motivated by the buzz of working in a team. It's very rewarding working closely with others who share the same common goal.

Jenn’s Answer

I was raised to give 100% effort on whatever I'm working on - interesting or boring, my dream job or one that pays the bills. Having a good work ethic and a drive to be successful can do wonders for your professional reputation and open up lots of doors. Sometimes I think, "What do I want people to say about me if they're describing me to a stranger?" or "How do I want people to remember me?" I want to perform well because I see myself as someone who always tries her best and generally puts out a quality result, and I want other people to think of me that way too.

My field is education policy, and within that work specifically, what motivates me is knowing that a lot of things about the current status quo are unfair or simply not good enough, and maybe if I work hard enough I can be a small piece of a bigger solution.

Kim’s Answer

I do not try to be "better" than co-workers. Anything I can do to help them to improve, I do. In the end, we all benefit from that. So, helping my co-workers is part of what makes me who I am. I am driven to succeed because people's lives depend upon my performance. I have a full-time and a part-time job. In my fulltime job, I help others to find work. This involves a lot of helping them to develop a really good resume, and instilling in them a sense of self-confidence, so they can handle the interviews. When they are successful, I have been successful.

In my part-time job, I do some legal research. I work on very important cases, which often involve criminal defense or civil rights issues. I am not a lawyer, nor am I even a trained Paralegal. So it feels pretty awesome when I find things that the legal experts on the case have missed. And that brings up another motivator: the feeling that you get when you have been successful at a particular task is really great!

When dealing with technology, I must admit that I am not super-great. So in that case, what pushes me to succeed - to get the computer to do what I want or need it to do - is simply that I refuse to be beat by a machine!
