there are some great FREE tools out there for video editing. If your laptop is Windows, then you can use Microsoft Video Editor. Lightworks is another good one for free, but it is does require more experience and would be good to go through their YouTube tutorials for it. If you are just getting started, try Microsoft Video Editor.
Ok, thanks.

Sometimes it is best to edit video and audio separately. I use "handbrake" (https://handbrake.fr/) which can help convert between video formats, and ocenaudio (https://www.ocenaudio.com/) to edit the audio. You might find it easier to film "silently" and then add the dialog, background music, and other side effects. You might also try platforms like TikTok that have tutorials to get started in making short 60-second videos.

Start with one of the free software products mentioned in other posts, like iMovie (Apple) or Microsoft Video Editor (PC). But, these are meant for beginners. Other shareware can be challenging and unintuitive. If you like simple editing, you will find that you want to do more. You can find good products for under $100 that you can use to get your feet "wetter", like Adobe Premiere Elements, Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, and my favorite so far, VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum (or Suite). There are many options PCs, MACs, and phones.
To get started, take some free tutorials from the software providers, or on YouTube by product users. You can learn a lot while spending no money.

Hello,
I would recommend any free editing software which is simple to use. That means it may not offer additional functions, but will be stable and intuitive for a beginner. Something like shortcut (https://shotcut.org/download/) would be a good starting point. This one for example offers a large variety of filters which you can also customize.
