You might look at the feedback here too:

Thank you comment icon The requirement in Chicago was an Associates Degree (2years) or 60 college hours at an accredited college. Accreditation by the Northwest Illinois Association of Colleges. The major or minor subject matter is irrilevent. For the first time ever, the standard was lowered to no college requirement to admit more minorities for the test given this year (2016). Check with your jurisdiction for the requirements. Just call personnel of the department you're interested in because the requirmrnts are not uniform thruought the country. John Randall Leavy

Business is a great minor if you are looking for advancement. A lot of material on promotional exams and boards comes from this realm.

Some that are offered that could help are psychology, homeland security, cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and some others. It would depend on what you might want to specialize in when you apply for a job. For example, if you decided to apply for a job with ICE, homeland security would make sense as a minor.

I would say Psychology, Sociology, or any kind of Communications degree would be useful.

Chris’s Answer

Tough to answer but I'll give you the feedback I've usually heard.

While a criminal justice degree sounds like a no-brainer, many places put a large value on bringing other skills to the job. My degree is in psychology with a lot of biology and chemistry classes. I know several sociology majors, education, and general business. The CJ degree isn't a terrible choice, but taking something else and talking about how it can be applied to the job may make you unique.

We can teach you how to do the job, it's up to you on how to make it your own. 😁
