What area of study should I undertake?
I am really interested in biotechnology and I hope to one day develop a medicine to help thousands of people. However, I want to have a stable career and make a decent amount of money. What major should I take in college? #career #college-major #biotech

You can start with something as general as a biology major and then as your interests, passions, and connections progress fine tune your courses from there. More than likely, you will end up getting a Master's degree to pursue this area of interest and become an expert in the field; however through clubs, research, and other campus organizations you can start building a foundation during your undergraduate years.
While on campus, speak with professors and advisors about this interest and see what you can do outside of the classroom to learn more about the field. An internship will help you can relevant experience and may one day turn nito a career.

I agree with Elizabeth's answer, but as you are currently focused on pharmaceutical development. Do a little more research in that area. Reach out to some of the big pharma companies, see if they have mentorship programs where you can have an expert in the field to talk to you and provide advise on next steps.
It is admirable that a young person has a specific goal for their future, but always leave room for flexibility. You may run into a related college course that you just can't wrap your head around, but is required for your major. For example, I thought I wanted to be a computer programmer back in the day. Yet I couldn't wrap my head around PASCAL, that changed the whole trajectory of my future. Now I am very happy, challenged and making a "decent" salary as a Telecommunications Engineer.
Shoot for the stars! But know you may have a pitstop at the moon before you reach your ultimate goals in life.
