You do not need a degree to learn music. A lot of popular singers today have not gone through any formal training/school to learn how to sing. Listen to a lot of singers, practice put up your singing on any of the socials media networks. If need be and if you want to take this up seriously as a career, get a vocal coach if you really want to practice, get coached, and test your vocal range. Lastly practice, practice, practice.

The short answer is that no degree is needed at all. Many artists and workers have made a career being self-taught however it's important to note that it still doesn't mean that they went it alone. Most of the time the were around other musicians either in life or at school. Finneas' parents were both musicians and while he didn't go to college many other professionals have a degree. So if you want to be in the music industry, find a way to be around good musicians and singers. That can be in a school, or college degree or it can be with a group of people in your city. If there aren't good musicians around you then you might have to move to find them. And definitely don't allow yourself to think that just because you're around musicians that you're around GOOD musicians. You've got to work very hard to improve yourself and be around people who are doing the same thing. Hard work is the key to getting in the industry. Oh and luck. That's part of it too!
