Zach’s Answer
Most colleges offer multiple options through their business division. Look at social media courses, web design, business cultures classes, etc. Ask the academic advisors at the colleges you visit. Also, look into job shadowing opportunities or working for your school website, magazine, or paper. Reach out to people in the industry and ask them for insights too.

In addition to the classes connected to marketing, I would suggest getting familiar with computer and software skills. You'll likely be doing a lot of your marketing work on computers, so any class you can take in college to upskill in technical skills, the better off you'll be.

Start with some research on what type of marketing you would like to do. Which areas of marketing are interesting to you? Your college will most likely have a baseline of courses to offer for marketing, but advice is to take a few different courses and see which area of marketing is the most interesting to you. Outside of school, you can also take courses online to further your skills in a given area. Focus on social media marketing, online marketing and branding as these will be good foundational courses.

Most universities will offer a range of marketing classes - from professional selling, management, creative, social media and others. It will allow you to define what area you may want to specialize in. As a marketer, I know that many other business classes are important. Being able to understand statistics, finance etc - are neccesary tools.
