Joel’s Answer

Hey Jonathon,

I am a big baseball fan myself. I also wanted to become an MLB scout. I want to give your my personal advice on this.

I absolutely still love and play the game of my baseball(Men's adult league). I played 2 years of independent pro baseball and wanted to go even further. I was in conversations with several scouts both college and minor league scouts. They gave some great advice. From me not making it to the big leagues and knowing what kind of talent is needed to become a big leaguer is the reason why I want to give you this advice.

To become a scout, I recommend you start watching a lot of baseball both live and on tv. Little league, high school, college, minor league and mlb games and practices. Start recognizing attributes like arm strength, contact hitting, power hitting, speed, fielding, work ethic and personality. I would start studying all of those attributes because it will make you understand the talent that will be needed to make it to the MLB.

I feel that being a scout would be one of the greatest careers out there.

Good luck Jonathon! You can do this!
