Ryan’s Answer
The hardest part of getting your business career started is having the right qualifications and experience to get started. I would recommend going on Glassdoor or Indeed and read different job roles. Once you have an idea of what you want, look at the qualifications on what it takes to get that position. Start working on those qualifications so you can compete to get that position.
On the work experience side, I always recommend a sales role. Entry level sales companies will almost always give you a chance with no experience. They can mold you into a good sales person and you are most adaptable when new. Once you can excel in this area you can apply that in many other areas of business and show your proven track record with results. Hope this helps!

Hi Lydia, Great question and I guess it demands on a number of factors for example I live in quite a rural area and so in order to be successful in business I needed to find a company with development opportunities to enable me to learn and grow, this meant I needed to look at the towns and cities nearby for the most opportunities.
It is always good to get a foot on the bottom run of a ladder with a business, often you can find opportunities for apprenticeships where you can work and learn and gain real skills that are useful as you build your career.
So to answer your question I guess the hardest part is to find a company that you are happy to join and that they are willing to invest in your development and growth.
Good luck!

It can be a challenge to find pursue a business career and find a company that has all of the things you are looking for. It is important to see how you can help the organization you are working for and how they can also help you in your own career development. There has to be a balance and I think it is important to find mentors at organizations you work for that can help guide you and support you in your development.
Things that I always keep in mind are:
What are short term goals?
What are long term goals?
Who can I network with?
What is something I want to do to help the Company but also help me further develop?

I would say having the right work experience. I'd recommend looking for entry level positions (like customer support, retail, sales, etc.) in the company/industry that you're interested in. Look for ones that value employee training and development, and have career advancement opportunities. Hope this helps!

Hello. One of the hard parts about getting into a business career is that "business" is a very broad term. There so many different directions you could take from finance to marketing, operations, services, project management, and much more. There is no easy way to learn which is right for you. A bit of it is trial and error. Internships can be a great way to try out working in different departments. Once you are in a company for an internship, focus on doing really well at your day-to-day responsibilities, but also network. Work with your manager to set up time with people in other departments. For example, if you are in a finance internship, meet with another intern who is working with an operations team.
Getting exposure to different areas is very important to shape your career. The experiences you have will tell you what you like/dislike about a job and ultimately point you in the right direction.

Hi lydia ,
When it comes to getting a job anywhere, it's very important for you to, first, determine what career you want to pursue. When you say business career, what exactly do you have in mind? Do you want to work in a corporate office? Doing what? Do you want to be a financial analyst, an accountant, become a CEO someday?
Once you narrow it down, you can then look at the requirements for that specific job.
You will likely need a Bachelor's degree in that field, you may need certifications, and sometimes experience as well.
I recommend you look at job posting for more details once you know what you're looking to focus on career wise. Good sites are indeed.com, linkedin.com, and careerbuilder.com
Best of luck!

To get into a business career, there are several steps you'll want to take. First, a college degree is likely going to be required. You should choose a business field to major in, such as Finance, Accounting, Management, Marketing or general business studies - something like that but that you are interested in. That might even be the hardest part in all honesty - to get your degree. It takes time and dedicated effort to achieve this. While you are in school I recommend finding internships, whether they are during the summer or during the school year. These opportunities will help you build connections to employers and give you access to exploring different parts of the business world.
I was fortunate enough to land a job at a Financial Services company when I graduated from college (many years ago). I did not have any internships on my resume and I feel as if I got lucky. Nowadays, when we recruit for entry level roles it is very likely we would prefer candidates who have some internship experience over someone who does not. That is not always the case, but I find it to be a trend - the internship will make you more competitive.

Hi Lianna. To clarify the Student's question, what is considered the hardest part of getting into this industry? Or, what was the hardest part for you personally?

The hardest part in getting a business career is finding your niche. Business skills are taught rather broadly, so learning to find your skill specialization and the industry you're interested in can take some time. Additionally, getting a professional network that's in tune with all of the above also takes some time, thought, and effort.

There are really different and vast areas of business, each got their own challenges, In general, in business environment, especially corporates, you do need to be creative, face paced and good at communication skills.
But to be honest, the most challenging part I would say is getting ahead of everyone, because a lot of the times it is not about how good you are, sometimes could be a result of a connections you make and the network around you.

Hardest part about getting a "business" job is how many jobs are out there. you can get a job somewhere, but maybe they are looking for someone with a specific degree or that degree with experience. The business world is all around, so to ask what's hard about it is hard to determine. But there will always be fierce competition in the business world as well as many opportunities, you just have to seize yours.
