Wow, how does one describe the litany of possibilities?
If I had to sum up the major goal of architecture is the ability to communicate a spatial idea that, once constructed, achieves a list of established goals.
You have to create an idea, which in your head is perfect in every way, and then you have to communicate that perfect idea, which to me that is greatest challenged; how does one describe a sunset.
All of what I just described takes a lot of effort but if you really enjoy the effort then it's not work. Like doing anything you really like, time goes by faster than you think.

As a registered Architect myself I can attest to the many different fields of employment related to architecture.
Upon graduating I joined an small structural engineering firm that wanted to become a small full service organizational, providing both engineering and architectural services.
I have worked in a Design/Build firm and a retail corporation as their architect of record for their retail outlet stores, which in turn lead me to another larger retail organization providing the same expertise.
I have met many colleagues who provide architectural services to various institutions that I would not have thought about; Hospitals, Universities, School Districts, and many positions in the Federal Civil Service.
Your knowledge of constructed living environments is beneficial to many different companies and/or institutions that one is not aware of.
