Jonathon,
Being in architecture is incredible! The teams I have been on have made airplanes, ships, satellites, and even unmanned underwater vehicles. The process from taking something from idea to reality is very satisfying. Most of the day is spent on diagrams and requirements of what your creation is going to look like and what it needs for supplies and specifications to work. Part of the time is spent listening to customers to understand what they want and how much they can afford. Part of the day is spent meeting with the draftsmen, engineers, and installers how put your ideas into products.
Check out a book on architectural drawings from your local library.
Visit a factory to see how the assemblers put ideas into products.
Learn CAD, Rhapsody, DOORS, or another tool commonly used in architecture from your local library.
