Is maintaining a relationship with your professors in college important?

would it be a good idea to ask them for help, or introduce yourself when class first starts to give a good impression? Does it matter? #college #school

Shawn’s Answer

Relationships are very key to success. You never know what influential people they have contact with. That being said, your work is going to be the key differentiator that makes you stand out from the crowd. It's great to introduce yourself, but make sure your work reflects to your professor that you're giving 100% effort. Then they'll be more likely to recommend you to their colleagues and associates in their network for career opportunities, letters of recommendation, etc.

Iryna’s Answer

I am not sure that it is important but it might come handy. You would never know how people might help you or how you would interact with them in the future. You professors are a great starting point to your network especially those that are in you area of studies. They can recommend you for internship or a job as they have their own network. They are also a great resource for recommendation letter when you would apply for a job. At the end i think it is up to you as any relationship you will encounter would depend on your efforts, willingness and time you would dedicate to nurture those relationships.

Rhonda’s Answer

Absolutely! The sooner you learn to build relationships and connections the better. I don't build connections based on what someone can do for me I build them based on some common or shared interest or experience. I try not to focus on what some can do for me but instead work to build a genuine connection with the people I meet. Be open to meeting new people and growing your network, who knows what opportunities or experience you could be exposed to just because you talked about your last family vacation with a professor.
