I would recommend looking into the marine mammal training programs in the US Navy. I Googled "navy dolphin training internship" and many interesting leads popped up. One was at the state aquarium in Texas. Looking at jobs in marine mammal training will also give you some idea as to the educational requirements. Try indeed.com. If you search for "marine mammal training" and leave the location BLANK, it will give you 90 jobs to look at.

The reason I would lean towards the Navy is because the use of marine animals for entertainment purposes has drawn widespread global criticism, and there is a shift in our way of thinking. SeaWorld caught a lot of negative publicity for the way it keeps and uses marine animals. When the purpose is more educational (such as zoos) or national defense (Navy) there has been less criticism. So, the entertainment programs MAY be on the way out. I would expect to possibly see an end to circuses in your lifetime as well.

I don't know if the navy has enlisted opportunities in the marine mammal training program. I will try to find that information and edit my response. Otherwise, you will need to get a degree first. If interested in the navy, I'd recommend talking to a recruiter.
