There is a severe shortage of people entering the workforce in trade jobs. By pursuing an apprenticeship in this field or another type of trade job, you would be highly sought after.

It requires both physical strength and mental problem solving skills. As number of apprentices wash out before making it to journeyman succumbing to the pressures of the job. However, if you have what it takes it’s a rewarding career, the camaraderie amongst lineman usually makes for the kind of workplace where you look forward to coming to work and you frequently hang out with your workmates. Linemen are part strong union, the IBEW. They have fairly stable jobs that pay well and can accumulate very large wages with the large amount of overtime they are frequently called upon to work. They receive good benefit packages usually including a good pension program.
My advice is that you should pursue an apprentice lineman opportunity if it is presented to you.

Careers in the trade profession are in need. And there is an over abundance of college careers. But in the trade programs you’ll find lots of work and therefore a constant flow of income. Don’t rule out the trade careers as selling yourself short. Because of demand there is a future in being a linesman and other trade careers.
