Mauro’s Answer

Hi Ella,

Success is totally subjective to many things including what you consider is being successful. Success can be measured in how many chains you open, profits are great, you are able to support a family with one business, success with your business through social media.

Starting a business is considered a successful achievement, I cant see myself opening a business or being an entrepreneur.

Usha’s Answer

Hi Ella,

Completely agree with Mauro. You need to understand what is the objective / purpose of the business. If the stated objectives are met, then the business owners can consider themselves successful. But you also want to look at this from an external perspective both to understand the financials of the company and the kind of economic benefits it is providing to its immediate customers and to the community.

Also, success in a business is not an event- it is ongoing. because you are not done with the business unless you close it or you sell it.

Ann’s Answer

Hi Ella!

Mauro and Usha have provided sound advice on defining what elements contribute to the success of a business. It also requires flexibility, proper planning, and organizational skills. Analytical and "forward" thinking should be applied in all segments of the company, from marketing to management. If you are starting your own business, bring your passions to the product, and keep in mind that no one will work harder for you than you, but you can't do it alone. Even sole proprietorships are built with other's support. If you have employees, build a talented team and provide a work culture that brings out the best in each one of them. I advise doing plenty of research to know your competition and their strengths and weaknesses. And never forget the importance of great customer service. It is crucial to gaining loyalty and retaining business.

I hope this has been helpful.
