What is it like being an anesthesiologist?

I plan to become an anesthesiologist but people have said that you don't get much interaction with patients (which I love). So I want to know what it is like being an anesthesiologist and whether I should change my career choice? #doctor #medicine #teacher -education

I think it is a pretty cool field. Yes, you do get the opportunity it communicate with the patients.
I have had to use them before in the past. I think are the best. I felt less afraid and was able to focus on
why I was there. It was like magic they asked me, "what is your name and your birthday ?" and when
i woke up two hours had passed. Thanks god for them. Take the quiz below to assist you in your decision making. Good Luck!

The role of an Anesthesiologist can vary quite a bit and will involve some patient interaction but not as much as if you decided to enter a field such as Primary Care (Internal Medicine, Family Practice). I would say do what you love and know that medicine allows you to be diverse. Anesthesiologists put people to sleep during surgery, but also manage pain in different settings which would allow more patient interaction. Good luck!!

Rafael’s Answer

I am a surgeon and I can tell you that the anesthesiologist spends a good amount of time talking to patients and explaining risks and benefits right before surgery. It is true that otHer office based doctors spend more time talking to patients. I would not worry until you are in med school. You will rotate in different specialties and know better the direction to take.

I am afraid I cannot be of help to you. My specialty is in Pathology. If you have a question dealing with Pathology in general or Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Forensic Pathology or Neuropathology I can be of help to you.
