Smith or Bates?

Hi! I need to take a decision and choose the college I want to go to for the next 4 years. I got admitted to both Smith and Bates and will be playing soccer at whichever one I choose. I also plan to do Pre-Med with a Biology major. I visited both schools and absolutely loved them. If anyone attended these schools or know more about them, could you please share your experience not only academically but socially as well?

Thank you so much!

Alex,

It looks like there are no attendees for either one of these colleges in our group of professionals. I've looked at both on-line and both schools look great! It looks like you have a tough choice ahead of you. I'm sure you've looked at pros and cons... Are you receiving scholarships from both? Are the scholarships equal? Have you considered the city and state surroundings? The tuition costs are similar as is the soccer team ranking.

I'm sure when you visited you looked at the academic offerings as well. And it sounds like both were impressive. Have you looked on-line to communicate with any professors, coaches or soccer players. Something there might click!

Good Luck!!
Mark

Mark recommends the following next steps:

Check out both schools on line
Connect or try and connect with professors, coaches & team mates of both schools
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much for the feedback! It is a very tough decision to make but for now I will follow your tips and hope that leads me to finally making a choice. Alex

Hi there Alex! Congrats on getting into both schools and being able to play soccer at both. I did not attend either school but I was a Resident Assistant for four years in college and have guided several students through the college process/career. I would consider Marks comment above he had some great points. Also, think about where can you see yourself in each school. On your visits did you see people that you would want to be friends with, can you see yourself studying in the library, joining a club, see yourself mentally designing your dorm room at a particular school etc. Having a full major such as pre-med and also playing a sport will take up a lot of your time so you want all the other little things to bring you joy. Like did you like the campus of one more, or were there better dorms, was the food better (no one is really happy with the food after a while anywhere you go). Ultimately, where your gut says to go and where you picture yourself. At the end of the day, there is always room for change as in your major or a school entirely. I've seen several students transfer school after a semester or year and end up at their best fit school so don't be afraid of that. Just take it one step at a time, trust your gut, and remember that your "dream" for the future will continually change. Hope this helps!
