The emergency room is usually a busy place, but usually a very cooperative environment. The doctors, nurses and technicians work together to rapidly diagnose and treat injuries. Sometimes it can be stressful on the team when there is a very ill or injured patient, but in a well-functioning ED, usually the team remains calm and each member of the team knows his or her job and the stress level is minimized. To work in an emergency room, you should work well with others and keep your emotions under control in times of stress.

You will see and participate in great teamwork if you are in a well-functioning Emergency Department. Many EDs have special rooms that are trauma rooms for patients with traumatic injuries. These often have more equipment, more privacy, and more space in them than other ED rooms where patients with less life-threatening and/or less messy medical issues will go.
Things move fast in the ED and being assertive helps.
Lastly, there are many units in a hospital or even rehabilitation center where you can help people with high injury. So far it feels different every time...you have personal interactions with the patient, patient's family and friends, the injuries and severity are different, the people you work with may be different.... it can be very satisfying knowing you are trying your best to help someone who needs it.
