I would first try to figure out what is that you like about sports. If you like being involved in sports activities I would look towards management instead of ownership. Ownership is more business than anything else, you are usually not involved of the day to day activities and may have another business or businesses that take time away from enjoying your product.

I would say either of the two. First, become a dominant athlete in the sport so you can have brand recognition like Michael Jordan or Derek Jeter. That will give you the ability and income to get investors. Second path is two start a venture capital start up like Instagram or others, then go IPO.
