Hi Zaire,

This is an excellent question! Starting college can be scary and quite challenging, but you can do it!! Don't be so worried about your major. You can start your college career as undecided, as this is what many students do. While enrolled as undecided you will take your core classes that you will have to have for any program (math, English, foreign language, history etc.). If you are super concerned, you can start at your local community college and see where your interests lie. This is a cheap way to get a feel for college, and start acquiring your credits. Otherwise, pick a field that you are currently passionate about, or something that you really love to do. If you can name at least 3 things you love to do, are super good at, or that you can't get enough of, that would give you an idea and a head start. For example, people always came to me for advice and to just listen to them. I was also always curious about why people behaved certain ways, and how differently people think. So early on I knew Psychology was my area, and that I wanted to be a therapist. That's what I pursued, and I love helping people! I hope this helps!! Good luck!!

Yes! You don't want to spend 4+ years studying something you don't love/enjoy. I started as a biology major, because that was my favorite class in high school, but I absolutely hated Biology and Chemistry in college. My academic advisor told me to spend Sophomore year taking generals. That way I was still fulfilling graduation requirements, but I choose classes that sounded interesting. This greatly broadened my horizons, and led to my eventual history major. I'm currently working in marketing, and I can tell you from experience the managers who hired me were only looking at the fact I had a degree, my sills, and experience. Most never even asked what I majored in, they just wrote down "Bachelors Degree".

Don't feel tied down by your major - despite the pressure to declare a major right away it's okay to wait, and it's okay to change your mind. You wont know what you enjoy until you try it
