I like Stephen Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people. One of these habits is "begin with the end in mind". So to your question, you will strive better if you know what you are trying to achieve/what your end goal is. In terms of information to help, you need to strike the right balance between having some insight and making a decision - don't wait too long for as much information as possible!

Hi Shedrick: I agree...so much information!!!
Keep it simple. That you want to strive better means to me that you seek to improve something about yourself.
Write down two or three goals of yours on a piece of paper.
Put that piece of paper on your bathroom mirror. It will remind you of that which you seek. The more you "see" and think about those goals, the more likely you are to achieve them.
I wish you the best.

Adding a bit to the answers already provided, success in your tasks, a successful person, generally starts with working on something that you enjoy. I think there is a strong relationship between doing something well and enjoying what you do. Of course, you would also want consider what it is about a task, job or career that you like. I will acknowledge though, that sometimes an extra boost of motivation can't hurt :). The part of your question "..apply the resources you have..." is key. I take that to mean what is within you or what can you adopt to help you to reach your desired success levels. As you might imagine, this varies from person to person. In general terms, one can get a sense of great satisfaction in solving a problem that no one else has been able to solve. That problem doesn't have to be huge but if it creates a path for others who have been blocked and, even better, if the solution includes some sort of innovative tool or strategy, then the likelihood that the solution stays in place or grows, can be that much more satisfying. (And then, sometimes, there are bragging rights :)).
I do hope you find this answer helpful. Best of luck to you!
