Hi Izaiah!

Like all attorneys, criminal defense attorneys have to earn a bachelor's degree, complete three years of law school specializing in criminal defense and take the state bar exam. So basically you're looking at seven years minimal.

To give some statistical information, in May of 2019, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the median annual wage for all lawyers was $122,960. In addition, the Bureau of Labor Statistics also predicts a job growth for lawyers of 4% for the time period of 2019 to 2029.

Good luck!!
Mark

Hi Izaiah,
To become a lawyer, you will graduate from high school and go to a 4 year college. During that time you will study and take the LSAT which is the exam you need to go to law school. Then you will go to law school for 3 years. After that, you can enter into whatever field you want to specialize in, such as defense. I recommend shadowing, or asking questions to a current defense attorney to make sure it is something you like to do!
Best of luck
