Johnny’s Answer

Yes, you can do most any science you like depending on your concentration in biology. A consideration is how much you enjoy working outdoors and with animals as opposed to a lab and doing research, writing papers and such.

Science is such a vast area you can find something you like doing with the classes you take in college.

My sister is a immunologist studying the causes and effects of a particular infectious disease. She heads a lab in a university trying to better understand bodies response to both the disease and the treatments for this disease.

Her husband is a veterinarian who helps treat animals and specifically studies bacteria and how it reacts with the stomach so this is an example of biology working with animals.

Marine Biologists are in a field where you study organisms in the water from plankton to whales and how the changes in the environment and habitat affect them.

Botanists study living plant organisms, from bacteria to the large trees. Within botany is horticulture which focuses more on garden life.

There are a lot of options with biology and you will eventually find what fits best for you!
Thank you comment icon Hi Johnny, thanks for the answer! Could you maybe give a few examples (such as job titles) that might be some of those vast areas you're referring to? Even just a few to answer the student's question about which are most sustainable would be great. Thanks! Alexandra, Admin
