Vickie’s Answer

Hi there! This is a great question.

Generally, pediatricians have a bit of freedom in deciding how much they want to work. If you only work in an outpatient setting, where you see patients in an office, you might work around 40 hours (or more if you want). If you decide you want to see patients inpatient at the hospital, you may work beyond 50. It all really depends on the setting that you’re seeing patients in and what you ultimately want to do.

Wendy’s Answer

Hi!
Early on in your career 50 plus hours a week. That is after residency which is typically 80 hours a week.

Another great option as you speak about a dream job is a Physician Assistant. The opportunity cost of your time over the duration of your life is worth it. https://www.thepalife.com/infographic-pa-vs-md-understanding-the-differences/

Wishing you well!

Hi Wuraola!

I agree with Wendy. On average pediatricians work 50 hours a week. There are many factors that go into how many hours a person works. For doctors in general, those factors add up to working many hours. When you're a pediatrician, there are so many that need your help! It's a calling and this is the major driving factor for many and why they poor so much into what they do! Pediatricians provide an awesome service helping families!

Hope this helps!
