Hi, this is great to hear about your interest in Anesthesia and medicine. This is one of the top earners in the medical profession, and you can google average salaries. I would instead say a word of caution that you should not focus on the pay, instead focus on what drives you and you are passionate about. I have known many physicians that go into it for pay and are miserable, and likewise with any other industry. If you are passionate about caring for patients then focus on doing all you can to get into medical schoool: get excellent grades in your undergraduate work and all prerequisite courses for medical school, study and do well on the MCAT, and prepare for the interviews, and once accepted you will be able to rotate through and see if this is a good fit for you.

It really depends on where you end up. You can work in the hospital setting where you go into private practice, contract with a hospital or health system, and supervise nurse anesthetists who provide anesthesia services to the more common procedures, which can be very lucrative. You can also work in pain management with treatments that include medications, as well as procedures such as injections to numb certain nerves. In terms of compensation, it also depends on where you end up practicing, either a big city vs a smaller city or town or rural location. But it can be one of the more higher-paying specialties, thus it is very competitive. In medical school and residency, I would focus less on a specific specialty and focus on getting into medical school, and really finding your passion. For many people, that can change.

Hi Ty, anesthesiology is a great field of medicine to pursue and anesthesiologists command huge salaries from $110,000+ upwards depending on the location. Since it is quite specialized and the specific purpose is to administer to patients prior to surgeries, I've heard that the insurance to protect yourself from liabilities also runs quite high.
As you chart your career path, it's good to think about the practical considerations, such as salary, growth opportunities, work/life balance, etc. One thing you shouldn't overlook is your inner passion for the work you do since you may end up doing it for years to come. Good luck!
