Hello!

Although engineers are compensated well for the work they do I don't think you should simply choose a engineering discipline based off salary. I know it can be very difficult to have long term goals and aspirations but ultimately trying to find a job that matches that can be really difficult and a lot of times you might find that job but you wont enjoy it. As I moved through my engineering career Ive learned to realize that having a job that you love and enjoy is worth 10x more than salary that you make. Yes, its nice to make a lot of money but if you can find something that you truly enjoy doing and make good money doing it that is when you will be most happy.
As Mark suggested above engineers make anywhere between 80-100k with a ton of information online regarding salary and things of that nature. I would suggest again to look at engineering fields that interest you and then from there worry about salary and things of that nature.

Good luck!

Hi Preston!

The mechanical engineering field is a great field to be in! Especially, if you're into math and love what you're doing!! I've been in engineering most of my career and I love it! Every role has it's pros and cons. The thing I enjoyed probably the most was that "every day was different." Some days you're pushing the pencil and other days you're on a ladder doing something physical.

The median salary for a mechanical engineer is around $90K. And the different roles you can serve in are endless. It's hard work! However, if you like what you're doing you'll love it!

As far as education, you'll use every skill you've learned in school from 1st grade all the way through college. I think the shocker for me was how much writing I did! Engineers have to document everything. And communications skills are key! I hope this helps!!

Good luck!
Mark
