Steven’s Answer

Art therapists work in a variety of settings including hospitals, counseling clinics, schools, and private practice. The specific job will depend on the level of training and expertise. The basic job involves using art to elicit feelings and emotions that can then be explored to reach counseling objectives. The types of art used include drawing, sculpture, painting and other self expression forms.

The American Art Therapy Association link is at http://www.arttherapy.org and there you can find a lot more information about the field and jobs.

Absolutely! If Art Therapy is your chosen field, the most obvious career path is becoming an art therapist, where you can guide people to express their emotions through art. But that's just one option. You could also consider roles such as a counselor, school counselor, or even an art teacher if you're interested in blending your creative skills with education. Moreover, you could step into the shoes of a recreational therapist, utilizing art to enhance people's overall wellness. And for those with a business mindset, setting up a private practice is definitely an option. There's a whole world of opportunities waiting for you! 🎨🤝🏥🏫🌟

Read a book about art therapy related to a population you are interested in work with, or a general book on the profession.
