Jennifer’s Answer

Hi Khanyisa,

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. I found a job working with the state of Maryland. I had a caseload of children who were at risk. I met with them monthly and helped them set positive goals. A few years later I wanted to move up in the field so I decided to get my Master's degree in counseling psychology. My range of jobs opened up significantly. I accepted a job working for the Department of Homeland Security in Washington DC as the Career Transition Program Manager. I supervised 12 counselors nation wide. I really loved that position. My advice to you would be to follow your heart. I went to graduate school at night to get my Master's so I could work at the same time. If you want to rise in the psychology field, you may consider graduate school as an option. I wish you the best in your career!
Thank you comment icon HI Ms/MRS Jennifer Thank you so much with your advise. but is it possible for me to get a good job when i only have honours in psychology? because i want to do what you did which is work while i complete my masters khanyisa
Thank you comment icon Yes! Just the fact that you have a degree puts you ahead of others applying for a job. My first job after graduating from college was with the government which pays well. What I did, and you may consider, is working somewhere during the Summers between college to get experience and your foot in the door to be hired full time when you graduate! Let me know if you have any other questions. I am here to help you! Jennifer Dzmura-Denney, MA, CCC, CPRW, ECC

Billy’s Answer

Not a psychology major but I have a couple of friends who are in California.

The answer will be depend on how do you define the term "PSYCHOLOGY FIELD". My friend who was undergraduate in psychology is able to get a job as a Behavior Specialist to help with Autism kids and family.

However, I believe if you want to become a psychologist, an undergraduate degree will not be enough.
