A.’s Answer

I am a medical student. An OBGYN must go through medical school. After high school, they will complete:

4 years of college for an undergraduate degree
4 years of medical school
4 years of OBGYN residency

That's 12 years of schooling after high school.

Hi Imani ! Great question! You will need to complete high school first, then go to a university and obtain a Bachelor's and then go to medical school and complete residency after medical school in OB/GYN speciality (around 4 yrs). Your hashtag says chemistry, and that is one of the prerequisites required for medical school, but you can be any major and apply as long as you complete the prerequisites such as biology, chemistry both inorganic/organic, physics, math, English, etc. I would also recommend to shadow an OB/GYN, shadowing is highly recommended if not required for medical school and being able to shadow an OB/GYN can give you more insight into the field. I am actually shadowing a successful OB/GYN now and love it! It is truly a dynamic field - please let me know if you have further questions about medical school!

Hope this helps!
Best of luck!
