As a pharmacist, is dealing with the public a tedious part of your job? Will being a pharmacist put me in any danger because of the people who want their medicine?

My father has insisted that I should look into pharmacy. I'm willing to give it a shot. I worked in a pharmacy for one summer, and I realize my experience could be different from others who have also worked in a pharmacy. There was once a gunman in my pharmacy, and it really terrified me. I was only asking this question to see if there were any more dangers. Not only that, but I was hoping to find out if there are any options that put me away from some of the public. #pharmacy

I understand your concerns, however the chance of you being in such a situation is rare in general. Considering you already have been, a second occurrence would be extremely rare. I would be more concerned about your passion for a career in pharmacy. It can be very rewarding personally. There are also so many different areas to practice, many of which pose little to no danger of being involved in a robbery. In addition, most retail pharmacies provide training just in case this happens on your shift. Think of it as a fire drill. Buildings rarely have fire but it gives most of us some reassurance knowing in the off chance it happens, you will know what to do. Best of luck to you.

I can certainly understand your concern. In my career, I have never been the victim of a pharmacy robbery. However, I have quite a few colleagues that have been crime victims. The world we live in can be a very dangerous place, one must be mindful of their environment, and make good choices as to the types of environments we choose to frequent. Sadly, being a victim of criminal activity can occur almost anywhere these days. The prudent thing is to not to recklessly put yourself in harm's way. Best wishes on your future endeavors.
