Is it difficult to get into the entertainment industry? What are my chances of making it big if I live in a small southern state?
Living in a small area makes me feel like I don't have what it takes to make it in the entertainment industry. I want to have a better understanding of what I need to do to make myself more appealing to possible employers.

If you wish to be an actor, you'd have to be in a bigger city to get more opportunities. Los Angeles, CA; New York City or Chicago, Illinois.
Living in a small town doesn't mean you cannot get an education. There are college-level schools just focused on acting. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts--New York or Los Angeles; CalArts--California Institute of the Arts and others on both coasts and Chicago. Solid training and business savvy (after all, entertainment is a business).
A good understanding of business, and understanding the performing arts will make you employable in show business. You will also discover if acting is for you. Perhaps you will find you prefer directing, or being an agent to actors or a casting director.
And the more you travel, soak up more things, the more you can expand from a small town person to a well-traveled and knowledgeable person.
