There are a million things that you might do in a day. Installing an operating system on a machine. Looking at trouble tickets and work with end-users to fix the problem. Physically installing and wiring up a server in a rack. Setting permissions on a file server. The reason you have a job as an engineer is to enable the business to do its job. They need all of their IT infrastructure online and available to every other employee can do their jobs.

Hi Tiana H. Thanks so much for your question. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

The good news is that most computer engineers get to do very different things on a daily basis. This is usually by choice though. As with many other types of jobs, you can be the type of (computer) engineer that has repetitive tasks. Some of those repetitive tasks may be something like running computer jobs (a computer job is usually a series of coded steps, included in what's known as a script), for data backups or information refreshes that teams need to run their businesses each day.

The challenge with this type of work is that often times, businesses are looking to their (computer) engineers to come up with innovative ways of doing things. Generally that means if a person or team is doing the same thing every day, the engineer may play a role in determining how to help that team do something better or faster. In the long run, not doing the same task every day, is a better way to have a longer career. In many ways, doing different tasks helps to keep interest in the job that one has and allows one to learn new things, to grow professionally.

Good luck!
