Hi Mireya,
It sort of depends on how close you are to them, what they did or are doing. Obviously, if you live in the same house as a drug-dealer, that will not be good.
The important thing will be to tell the truth on your application, hopefully show that you don't hang out with them, or that they have reformed. It's okay if you bump into them at a family reunion, but you should not be spending every weekend barbecuing at their house, etc.
There is almost nobody with a perfect background in law enforcement. For many people, it is the exposure in one way or another to wrong-doing that attracted them to the field. Some got in trouble as kids, etc. You will need to be prepared to answer some difficult interview questions: If you were at a family reunion, and your Uncle Bob was there, and you saw him selling drugs to your teenage nephew, what would you do? Law enforcement review boards are never easy. They want to find out if you have honesty and integrity, and the self-confidence to succeed.
Border Patrol is a good career field. Do not let a fear of rejection hold you back!
