What exactly does a Civil Engineer do?

I'm considering a career in civil engineering, but I have no light on exactly what they do in a building project. #engineering #civil-engineering

Gordon’s Answer

You will need a P.E. designation from your state to start. A civil engineer designs and helps implement , buildings, roads, bridges, railroads, schools, hospitals, etc. & port facilities for public use. As a mechanical engineer I worked in factories (auto, transit, ships, aerospace, medical equipment, oil and gas) or on military, NASA projects, which usually do not require a PE. The reason for the PE is because these public works have some state regulations in the construction(s), and state oversight/audits for the $$ and compliance.
Cheers

Pradeep’s Answer

Civil engineers design, build, supervise, operate, and maintain construction projects and systems in the public and private sector, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment. Many civil engineers work in design, construction, research, and education.
