Hi Carson
I love cars and things that move myself. I now work in technology and enjoy driving around, meddling with cars and learning about new things in the world.
If you want to work with cars there are many routes you can go
- Get into college, take some courses on machine learning and AI if you are inclined to get into the self-driving car industry. You will in this form be future proofing skills and making sure you dive straight into a market full of jobs related to AI and machine learning I would say this is a fairly medium difficulty option - Picking courses, learning advanced math and coding skills and sticking to the courses will be long but rewarding. This set of skills are transferable across many industries. To keep the costs low, you can start out with community college and transfer credits to complete 4 year college.
- Do anything related to Mechanical engineering or Mechatronics (Mechanical and Electronics), so you will be learning all fundamentals that will help you understand how automobiles work and again lead you to a wonderful career with cars and automotive. Also a medium difficult option, lots of time and prep to get there. However, long term rewarding in terms of career. To keep the costs low, you can start out with community college and transfer credits to complete 4 year college.
- Relatively easier option: You can take a lot of courses in training to be a mechanic in community colleges and do really well and get employed by a big name car brand. Here you probably wouldn't need 4 years of college, however, the path to a very successful mechanic is also long.
There are many other ways you can go. However, words of sincere advise would be, all roads are equally weighted. Some might appear easier at the start, but gets to a VERY steep climb later and some might be harder upfront but, will ease out as you go along. Be committed, focused and disciplined and do everything you do with conviction. That will take you places.
Also in the process pay attention to how you're feeling about your direction and remember to have a LOT of fun! :)
