How does a veterinarian discuss information with clients when it involves a worst-case scenario, such as a terminally ill pet?

I'm a high school student that is working on a career blog project for a class. I'm trying to understand how veterinarians discuss information with clients when it involves worst-case scenarios. #veterinarian

This is never an easy situation! It can be an exceptionally emotional time not only for the owner of her pet but the veterinarian as well. I can’t speak for every vet, but I have seen they all have a similar routine. They will first provide the information that was done to diagnose the illness, any tests or diagnostics that were done. Then they will go through what they mean to provide a better understand what normal and not normal results are. From there they explain how the illness affects the body and prognosis. From there they give options on what they would like to do for their pet.

I would definitely find a veterinarian who is willing to let you shadow them! The best way to learn about difficult conversations is watching a doctor discuss them with a client. It takes finesse when done correctly and makes all the difference to the clients
