The worst part of being an anesthesiologist is a death in the operating room. When someone dies under your care there are always questions that a caring human being will ask themselves. Did I make a bad decision? Did I not have the right information? Could I have done more? Were my actions to blame?
Self reflection is normal and can be helpful to the physician, but if excessive it can be destructive. Every physician need a support system to help them through such events, such as a mentor, a good friend, a colleague, or family.

One of my friend's doctor is anaeshiologist, and below is what I understood of the profession through conversations with him:
The best part is that anesthesiology is super important preceeding any major surgeries. It is a skilled profession and sometimes often under appreciated.
The downside is getting Emergency calls and being available on call at odd hours and still be effective in the job.
